Dentures Q & A

What are dentures?

Dentures are custom dental appliances that you get if you need to replace all or many of your teeth. The team at Fibonacci Dental Studio works hard to make sure your dentures look like your natural teeth did, only better. If your original teeth were worn down and discolored, your dentures look good as new.

To ensure consistency throughout your smile, your dentures don’t just include teeth. They also include a pink acrylic set of gums that hold the teeth. The softer acrylic is gentle on the tissues in your mouth.

The teeth, like crowns and other dental restorations, are made of porcelain. You must replace your dentures every five to eight years unless you break them, in which case you must repair or replace them as soon as possible.

What holds my dentures in place?

Traditional dentures are held in place by the muscles in your mouth. This isn’t always comfortable, but it’s doable. The team at Fibonacci Dental Studio may offer you implant-retained or implant-supported dentures. Implants are screw-like titanium devices placed into your jawbone that act like the roots of your teeth.

Implant-retained dentures

With implant-retained dentures, an oral surgeon places two to four dental implants in your jawbone to hold onto your dentures and keep them stable.

Implant-supported dentures

Implant-supported dentures are similar to implant-retained dentures, but they don’t rely as much on the implants. Instead, the team attaches a bar to the implants that holds the dentures in place.

The Fibonacci Dental Studio team also offers mini denture implants with the MDI Denture Stabilization System. These implants are smaller and easier to place, but they’re only used for teeth in the lower jaw.

How should I care for my dentures?

Dentures require some different steps for care than your original teeth. You must still keep them clean and visit Fibonacci Dental Studio for exams every six months. To keep your dentures clean and intact, the team at Fibonacci Dental Studio advises you to follow these steps:

  • Remove your dentures to sleep
  • Store your dentures in lukewarm water at night
  • Rinse your dentures after each time you eat
  • Use a gentle toothbrush and cleaner to brush their surfaces
  • Continue brushing your mouth and gums as usual

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your dentures and their care, the team at Fibonacci Dental Studio is happy to help.
